I think powering these mobile towers is a great use for renewable energy. I think as renewable energy becomes more cost effective you will see it used to power more and more things.

Thanks for the info on Haiti's mobile money program. I'm interested in knowing more about whether the mobile money initiative is offering any ancillary benefits in helping ordinary Haitians enter and access the global economy. Any help appreciated - john.sullivan@leerink.com

The World Bank currently considers Senegal to be moderately vulnerable with respect to food security. During 2008, Senegal experienced a food crisis, caused mainly by low rainfall, decreased food production, and a sharp price increase for basic commodities. To counter such situations, women often develop strategies for the survival of their families, for instance, taking on low-paying or risky employment in order to feed their families. This practice reinforces inequalities between women and men, which in turn, hinders development.

Thats a good piece of writing about the MNCs in Africa. The resources abound in the continent together with the talents to manage and turn SMEs to multinational coorporations. The main challenge is the low infrastructural development in the East and West African countries; as well as trade barriers. If some of these issues are addressed and agree to make trading more flexible and less difficult within the continent, am sure the MNCs in Africa will grow faster to rock shoulders with those in the so called developed countries

Antara,
Thanks for highlighting an important issue in Mumbai. I think you had missed one of the biggest life threat for men and women in Mumbai buses. the advertisers who had fitted plastic seats for passengers to garner ad revenue, failed to take care of broken seats due to lack of ad funds. the two iron rods with missing headrest are such a great threat to passengers specially ladies and specifically pregnant ones is ignored by the BEST, RTO and funding World Bank. what will be the condition of a pregnant woman if any such rod causes a fatal injury to her and her child in the womb on application of urgent brake by driver? [this is common feature of best drivers] do any city with rampant unruly passengers requires vacuum operated doors? then why they were fitted, just to waste public money?

It is inspiring to read about girls who will now be able to receive education. The books the girls receive along with their education will positively affect their future as well as the prospects of those around them. It is fantastic that the girls' mothers will also receive assistance. This sounds like such an excellent program, how wonderful!
