Sylvia Mwangi is a Partner in the Dalberg Nairobi office. She is passionate about accelerating the pace of socio-economic development in Africa, particularly deriving energy from tackling challenges in education, the environment and gender equality.
Sylvia has more than ten years of professional experience working in Africa. Prior to joining Dalberg, she was a Senior Manager at McKinsey and Company where she served organizations in Africa in the private and public/ social sectors developing strategies and supporting their implementation to unlock value and achieve impact. While at McKinsey she also served as the Country Manager for Generation Kenya, an education to employment initiative with a mission to prepare, place, and support people in life-changing careers that would otherwise have been inaccessible to them.
Before joining McKinsey, she was a Group Finance Manager for a venture capital firm where she managed funds of >USD 50 Million from East and Southern Africa to ensure they invested appropriately to maximize their ROE. She cut her teeth in the professional world as an auditor with Deloitte and KPMG conducting statutory financial audits and internal control reviews for organizations in various economic sectors such as financial services, consumer goods and NGOs/ foundations. Sylvia has completed an Executive Program in Corporate Innovation from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan School of Management, a BCom. and is finalizing an MSc. in Finance from University of Nairobi. She is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Information Systems Auditor and Financial Services Auditor. She lives in Nairobi with her husband and four children.
