In the United States, diet-related chronic diseases affect nearly half the population while small and mid-sized farms continue to decline. Developed with The Rockefeller Foundation, Dalberg’s analysis examines how Food is Medicine (FIM) programs can address both challenges at scale. The findings show that expanding FIM to 43 million eligible Americans could unlock up to $50.2 billion in annual demand for healthy food. This demand can translate into broader economic gains, driving over $45 billion in GDP growth, supporting more than 300,000 jobs, and strengthening the viability of small and mid-sized farms.
