Dalberg Doubles Down on Our Efforts in in Bogotá, Colombia

Dalberg is doubling down on our efforts in Colombia and formalized our presence with the official opening of the Bogotá office earlier this year. This move reflects our aspiration to create a significant and unique impact in the country and in the broader South American region. Dalberg has been working over the last few years on furthering impact in the region, in areas such as unpaid care, blended finance for climate, public health, agriculture and AgTech, and energy. Continuing to grow our work in Bogotá gives us more opportunities to contribute to the natural and social landscape in the region.

The Colombian office represents the next chapter in Dalberg’s journey to fulfill our vision of a sustainable planet and inclusive societies, and is a testament to our growth, innovation, and commitment to our values. Office director Juan Pablo Jimenez is an Associate Partner with Dalberg and has been at the forefront of building Dalberg’s presence in Colombia. In this he is supported by Fabiola Salman, a Partner with Dalberg Advisors based out of Mexico City, and the leader of Dalberg’s Latin America practice.

Juan, there are unique challenges and opportunities for impact work in Colombia. What are you most excited about working on?

There are two broad topics where Colombia and more broadly South America are well positioned to drive impact

  • Global Food Security: This region plays a pivotal role in ensuring food security worldwide. South America is a significant net exporter of food and agricultural commodities, accounting for 16% of the total global food and agriculture exports.
  • Amazon Rainforest as a Biodiversity Hub: The Amazon rainforest, often referred to as the “lung of the world,” holds paramount importance in global biodiversity preservation. It constitutes the largest and most critical rainforest, representing a staggering 40% of the world’s remaining rainforests.

These two focal points highlight the region’s potential to have a profound and positive impact on a global scale.

Fabiola, how do you see Dalberg’s strengthened presence in Latin America as contributing to the firm’s overall mission and growth?

Latin America, including Colombia, stands at a critical juncture, presenting a significant opportunity for reimagining its development framework. Confronted with a complex web of challenges spanning climate, healthcare, employment, social protection, and more, the region faces an imperative for transformation. Dalberg is dedicated to addressing the most pressing issues in the region, such as to stimulate sustainable growth, foster the creation of high-quality employment opportunities, fortify institutional capabilities, and steadfastly work toward poverty reduction and inequality mitigation.
