Empowering Students through a Whole-Child Development Approach to Education in the DRC

Dalberg partnered with a philanthropy organization to integrate whole-child development approaches into primary and secondary education in the eastern regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), focusing on Catholic Congregational schools in Katanga.

Our project report details a framework for creating a holistic educational environment for primary and secondary school students, incorporating academics, hard and soft life skills, spirituality, values, and socio-emotional learning.

We also explored the integration of ICT and concluded that coordinated efforts among national and regional stakeholders are needed to ensure successful integration.

Our partnership involved capacity building of the education system in target regions – Haut-Katanga and Lualaba – by introducing WCD approaches into educational programs.

We worked with 54 organizations, including 26 priority organizations in education promotion and child well-being, to improve their knowledge of ICT use and Whole Child Development. Watch the full video from the study here or the abridged version here.
