Celebrating 10 Years of Impact: Dalberg Advisors London Office Anniversary

[London, April 2024] – Dalberg Advisors is thrilled to announce the celebration of the 10th anniversary of their London office, marking a significant milestone in their journey of driving positive change. Founded in April 2014, Dalberg’s London office has experienced significant growth, evolving from a team of 15 in 2019 to over 50 colleagues today, across consulting and operations teams.

Dalberg’s London office contributes to firmwide collaboration and knowledge sharing across geographies and areas of expertise. The staff regularly works alongside teams in the Geneva and Paris offices, and roughly half of the projects are cross-staffed with teams in other geographies—from Singapore to San Francisco. This allows the teams to leverage Dalberg’s global reach and deliver impactful solutions worldwide

Regional Director James Eustace and Office Director Laura Amaya discuss the London office’s pivotal role in this interconnected network, and how fostering a culture of camaraderie encourages better collaboration and innovation.

What kind of portfolio is London’s management team driving, James?

We have a mix of clients and types of projects in London, ranging from hyper-local work to cross-geography global projects. A large part of our work in London is with organizations in the Finance and Investment space. These include development finance institutions such as British International Investment and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as private asset managers and impact funders. We also work with thought leaders like the UK’s Impact Investing Institute and innovative finance pioneers like the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and UBS Optimus Foundation.

We also do a significant amount of work with corporate and philanthropic clients advancing the energy transition. We have led pioneering research on new industries such as electric mobility and empowering consumers towards carbon-free energy. We have also supported United Nations and the World Bank to drive investment toward data to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Finally, we support several clients in the Health space, many of whom are based in London. We have been working with global foundations such as the Wellcome Trust and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation on engagements ranging from internal strategy, to research and sector landscaping, to program implementation. We have also advised funders in the UK, such as the Guy’s & St Thomas’s Foundation and the Royal Academy of Engineering.

We are also keen to become an ‘Impact Hub’ in London

We have seen the value of fostering connections, amplifying impact, and supporting organizations at every stage of their journey. That’s why we host quarterly external events, ranging from impact happy hours with clients and partners to social Hackathons.

Our events, like the recent Innovation Hackathon in November 2023, provide a platform for collaboration and idea-sharing. During these gatherings, we offer pro bono advice to organizations grappling with key questions, supporting them to drive meaningful change in their communities.

By facilitating connections among individuals with shared missions, supporting organizations in their early stages, and grounding our impact in our own community, we’re seeking to build a network of changemakers right here in London!

Laura, you are clearly a believer of “teamwork makes the dream work” as office director. Tell us what makes this London office so beloved to the staff?

London houses Europe’s largest office with staff who head internal and external initiatives on gender inclusion, finance and investment, and conflict and humanitarian response. Dalberg’s London staff hail from all corners of the globe and are united over a shared love of biscuits, lunch outside in the rare British sunshine, and Banh Mi from the little place around the corner. Our office is also home to staff over the arc of their career, with them honing their craft through graduate studies or secondments before returning to Dalberg. This dynamic environment means that we are always welcoming new, and old, Dalbergians into the fold.

What makes our office truly special is the day-to-day culture that we have built as a team. We have a large communal lunch table where we come together to talk about project work and TV series (including frequent heated conversations about Love Island UK). We have a foosball table where many of us have been deeply humbled and a life-size cutout of one of our Associate Partners that enjoys being hidden around corners to scare unsuspecting consultants.
