Dalberg Implement provided design and implementation of the Ajira Digital youth employment program across three parties: the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA); the Kenya Ministry of ICT, Youth, and Innovation (MoICT); and the Mastercard Foundation. Under the Young Africa Works (YAW) program, Ajira seeks to empower over one million young people in Kenya to access digital job opportunities.
We designed the programmatic activities, deployed a team to KEPSA to build internal capacity, supported the implementation of program activities, and the development of the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) framework for the program. Dalberg then transferred capabilities to the KEPSA team to take over program implementation.
Our engagement resulted in: i) a fully-fledged KEPSA team in place with the capabilities to oversee the program, ii) processes, policies, and knowledge management systems set in place to support the KEPSA team, iii) an operational framework established to support a strong working dynamic across multiple stakeholders, and iv) a fully operational, revamped Ajira website. To date, the program has trained over 9,000 youth in work-ready digital skills and connected over 30,000 youth to jobs.
